Department of Sociology Joseph R. DeMartini Travel Grant

Award: Financial support for travel expenses.

Purpose: To support travel to the American Sociological Association Annual Meeting or another appropriate professional meeting to organize, attend, or participate in sessions in order to gain knowledge concerning effective teaching strategies.

Requirements: Recipients of the award are expected to share information with other departmental members (in the Spring Sociology 591 teaching pro-seminar or in the departmental colloquium) upon their return from their conference or educational experience.

Eligibility: All currently enrolled graduate students in the Department of Sociology who have completed at least one semester of graduate work in the department.

Criteria: Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of demonstrated interest in the development of teaching skills, and expected benefit of the proposed travel to the student and to the department.

Application: In a clear and concise statement of no more than 400 words (double-spaced, 12 pt font, 1 inch margins), describe your qualifications for the award and justification of use of funds. The application should also include a budget (with the following expense categories: travel), and a budget narrative that justifies the expense category (e.g., by demonstrating how the funds will support your research). Please also indicate the name of the meeting and, if possible, the teaching-related sessions you will attend there.
