This academic year, the Department of Sociology\u2019s Graduate Studies Committee continued the popular Sociologist @ Work Series. Through this ongoing endeavor, the department brings in speakers who are sociology PhDs doing important and diverse work outside of academia. The department was honored to feature the following Sociologists @ Work for this year\u2019s series.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Brian Goesling, PhD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Goesling is a principal researcher at Mathematica, where he currently directs the Evaluation of Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Approaches project based on a large, multistate, random assignment evaluation of promising approaches to prevent teen pregnancy. Before joining Mathematica, Goesling was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar in Health Policy Research at the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Monica King, PhD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

King is a senior data scientist at Allianz Life, where she works with business stakeholders to build predictive models that are used to drive efficiencies in the insurance industry. Previously, she was a data scientist on the Enrollment Analytics team at Drexel University. Her favorite part of being a data scientist is working collaboratively with diverse teams and making compelling data visualizations. She holds a BA in sociology from Rice University and a PhD in demography from the University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Lynn Fahey, PhD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lynn Fahey is a senior trial consultant with JuryScope. Fahey leverages data to teach her clients about jury behavior from data. You can find her in the field observing behavior behind two-way mirrors, analyzing data from large-scale surveys she designs, or in courtrooms across the country advising attorneys on how to implement the findings from her studies. She holds a PhD in sociology from Rice University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the department featured a panel of three recent PhD alumni working in academic settings.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Alana R. Inlow, PhD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Alana Inlow graduated with their PhD in Sociology from WSU in 2021. Alana is an assistant professor of teaching at the University of Denver in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. They are interested in neighborhood crime, gentrification, the built environment, and place\/geography.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Adam Roth, PhD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Adam Roth graduated with his PhD in Sociology from WSU in 2019. After receiving his PhD, Adam began a position as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Sociology Department at Indiana University with a join appointment at the Indiana University Network Science Institute. Adam has accepted a position in the Sociology Department at Oklahoma State University. He is interested in how the social environment influences personal health and well-being.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Pierce Greenberg, PhD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Pierce Greenberg graduated with his PhD in Sociology from WSU in 2018. Pierce is an assistant professor at Creighton University in the Department of Cultural and Social Studies. He is interested in spatial inequality, environmental sociology, rural sociology, and survey research methods.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n
