Congratulations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mari Amorim<\/strong> and colleague Megan Bea were awarded a two-year grant from the National Institute of Health titled \u201cDebt Fluctuation, Stress, and Health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dylan Bugden\u2019s<\/strong> 2020 paper in Socius<\/em> titled \u201cDoes Climate Protest Work? Partisanship, Protest, and Sentiment Pools,\u201d was among the ten most downloaded articles in the ASA journal Socius<\/em> in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caleb Cooley<\/strong>*successfully defended his dissertation entitled \u201cContextualizing Health Disparities: The Role of Social Support, Internalized Stigma, and State Policy Climate in Shaping Substance Abuse and Mental Distress Among Sexual Minority Adults.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caleb Cooley<\/strong>* accepted a position as a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Texas Christian University. He will begin his appointment in fall 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanessa Delgado:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Awarded an Early Career Research Grant by the Family Process Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selected as a 2024 Frank F. Furstenberg Early Career Scholar by the Council on Contemporary Families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Denney<\/strong> was interviewed and featured by the WSU Office of the Chancellor<\/a> for his research on population health and well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monica Kirkpatrick Johnson <\/strong>was interviewed on Minnesota Public Radio<\/a> about teen employment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erik Johnson<\/strong> was promoted to full professor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seon Yup Lee<\/strong>*successfully defended his dissertation entitled \u201cStatus Dynamics Beyond the Scope Conditions: Deference, Incompetence, and Group Contribution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christian Maynard<\/strong>*:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Placed third at the GPSA Research Exposition & Academic Showcase within the Arts and Education Sciences section with his poster, \u201cUS Cannabis Legalization 2015\u20132021: Implications for Cannabis Use and Perceived Risks Among Adolescents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Awarded a Foley Summer Fellowship, which he will use to conduct research on drugs and drug policy to present at the 2024 American Society of Criminology meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas Rotolo<\/strong> received the 2024 Louis N. Gray Award from graduate students in the department, honoring his exceptional graduate student mentorship and advocacy this past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jen Schwartz <\/strong>and Jenn Sherman <\/strong>were featured in Washington State Magazine<\/em><\/a> about their rural incarceration research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Whitley <\/strong>received a Smith Teaching and Learning Grant from the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement for the 2024-2025AY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luna Wu* <\/strong>placed third, within the Physical & Social Sciences, at the GPSA Research Exposition (Academic Showcase) 2024, with a poster titled \u201cReturn migrant Children in Contemporary China: Estimating the Impact of Return Migration on Children\u2019s Educational Expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna Zamora-Kapoor<\/strong> was interviewed and featured in WSU Insider<\/em><\/a> for her research using artificial intelligence to improve health equity in rural Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
