Department of Sociology Undergraduate Scholarships & Awards

The Department of Sociology offers eight scholarships and awards to eligible undergraduate Sociology majors from all campuses. Each scholarship and award reflects the interests and desires of its donor. They range from $500 to $2000. Awards are announced in April.

Washington State University undergraduates are also encouraged to apply for University-wide scholarships by completing the University scholarship application before January 31 for the following academic year. Completing this application enables students to be considered for an additional set of scholarships and awards through the University. Students are encouraged to complete a new scholarship application every year, since student eligibility changes as do the availability of actual awards and scholarships.

Award Announcement Procedure

Award winners will be notified by the Department Chair and will be recognized at the Department’s annual Spring banquet.

Students may apply for a maximum of two department awards  (listed below). Applications that make specific mention of why a student is qualified for the particular award or scholarship identified will have a greater chance of success than those that attest to the general quality of an applicant. All scholarship and award applications should be submitted electronically to no later than 5:00 p.m. on the first Monday of March each year. Make sure to put “Sociology scholarship application” in the subject line.  Please label your applications with your last name and the name of the scholarship application (e.g., Smith_DePew).
