At-Risk Youth

The At-Risk Youth minor complements a wide variety of academic majors. Coursework and other opportunities provide a broad understanding of youth in their social context and the different pressures that contribute to delinquent and deviant behavior.

Earning your minor

Students pursuing the At-Risk Youth minor are required to take 18 hours of sociology coursework and must maintain a C average. The 18 hours includes four required courses and two additional sociology electives.

  • SOC 352: Youth and Society
  • SOC 360: Social Deviance
  • SOC 362: Juvenile Delinquency
  • SOC 368: Drugs and Society

Electives (choose 6 hours)

  • SOC 346: Sociology of Education
  • SOC 351: The Family
  • SOC 361: Criminology
  • SOC/CJ 367: Juvenile Justice and Corrections
