Alpha Kappa Delta

Alpha Kappa Delta is the International Sociology Honor Society.
Founded in 1920 at the University of Southern California, Alpha Kappa Delta seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in the scholarship in the study of social problems, sociology, and intellectual activities that lead to the improvement in the human condition.

Today AKD has more than 490 chapters with over 80,000 members, all of whom are student and faculty scholars.

AKD at WSU
Beta of Washington, the AKD chapter at Washington State University, was founded in 1939. Each year approximately 20 undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty are inducted into the chapter. These members represent the top 35 percent in general scholarship, earning at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and at least a 3.0 in their Sociology courses.

AKD scholars can participate in a peer reviewed scholarly paper contest, receive reimbursement for professional travel, and request funding for speakers. All members receive an AKD pin, certificate, and handbook, and a teal honor cord at graduation.
