Alumni establish Graduate Student Travel Award

The Department of Sociology extends deep appreciation to Drs. Karen Jennison and Kenneth Johnson—both of whom received their doctoral degrees from our department in 1974—for establishing the Karen Jennison and Kenneth Johnson Graduate Student Travel Award.

Their generous gift will enable more sociology graduate students to travel off campus to conduct research and to attend conferences, meetings, and other scholarly and professional events. This new support will contribute significantly toward development of high-quality research and greater opportunities for students to gain further knowledge, skills, and experience to benefit their academic and professional careers.

At WSU Karen studied primarily with Professor Walter Slocum and Kenneth studied with Professor Louis Gray. Both have since enjoyed successful careers in sociology in Greeley, Colorado.

The department welcomes additional gifts to support both undergraduate and graduate education through the Department of Sociology Excellence Fund.
