Herbert and Mary Wensky Neil Scholarship

Herbert and Mary Wensky Neil Scholarship

By Don Dillman

Dr. Lisa McIntyre, chair of the Department of Sociology is pleased to announce the creation of the Herbert and Mary Wensky Neil Scholarship Endowment for WSU students studying sociology. It was created by Herbert Neil in 2012 to honor his wife, Mary, who worked as the Sociology Department secretary from the late 1940s until the 1960s. Mary earned two degrees at WSU (General Studies ’62 and Education ’63) and then taught at Edison Elementary School in Pullman until her retirement in 1981. She died in 1992.

The Department is pleased with this generous endowment, which will provide awards to certified majors in Sociology with demonstrated financial need for many years to come.  The first scholarships of $2000 each were provided in April 2013 to two of our outstanding undergraduate students, Kyla Chapell and Rosalinda Godninez.

If you would like to contribute to the Herbert and Mary Neil Scholarship for Sociology students, your gift, large or small will be appreciated.
